Reflexology for Children with Autism
Our goal is to ease daily challenges for children with autism by using reflexology to help reduce some of their symptoms and support their well-being (ages 1-16).
What We Do
Reducing Stress
Many children on the spectrum experience high levels of stress, especially in social situations, which can lead to emotional overwhelm and physical tension. By applying light pressure to specific points on the feet or hands reflexology may help calm the nervous system, support emotional regulation, and create a greater sense of comfort and safety.
Reflexology can help support the areas of the brain involved in speech and social interaction. When combined with other therapies, it may encourage children to expand their vocabulary, form sentences, improve diction, and strengthen learning skills. In children with greater developmental delays, it can also gently foster a desire to communicate, understand simple requests, and build early social connections.

Helping with Constipation
Constipation is a common issue among children with autism, often linked to sensory sensitivities, stress, or dietary challenges. Reflexology can help support healthy digestion by stimulating reflex points connected to the digestive system, especially those on the feet. This gentle stimulation may encourage bowel movement, reduce discomfort, and promote regularity.
Better Sleep
Many children with autism experience hyperactivity and have difficulty falling or staying asleep. Their nervous systems can be easily overstimulated, making it hard to wind down and relax at night. Reflexology can help by gently calming the body and signaling the brain that it’s safe to rest. By working on specific pressure points related to the nervous system and sleep regulation, reflexology encourages a state of deep relaxation.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Reflexology is a gentle touch therapy that uses pressure points on the feet or hands to help support the body’s natural balance and promote relaxation in children.
-
Yes! Reflexology is non-invasive and completely safe for children of all ages when performed by a trained professional.
-
While it’s not a cure, reflexology may help ease common challenges experienced by children with autism, such as stress, sleep issues, constipation, and sensory overwhelm.
-
Reflexology should never be painful. The touch used is gentle and adapted to your child’s comfort level. However, sometimes there may be slight discomfort in certain areas — especially if those points correspond to parts of the body that are out of balance. This is normal and can be a sign that the body is responding and beginning to heal. We always work carefully and adjust the pressure to make sure every session feels safe, calming, and supportive.
